MMS/Multimedia
Besides text, SMS messages can also carry multimedia data, or MMS (Multimedia Message Service) either as a download to or an upload from the customer. It’s possible to send pictures, videos, coupons, ringtones, wallpapers, animations, business cards (e.g. VCards) and Mobile Web links to and from a mobile phone.
Examples:
Download a coupon - Brands may consider using
multimedia messaging to send barcode coupons that
can be scanned as a traditional paper coupon might.
IHOP launched a promotion that allowed customers to
opt-in to receive special discounts and offers. Among
the offers, barcode coupons were sent to customers’
phones that could be scanned at the restaurant.
Submit your photo to Enter - Since most phones are equipped with cameras, allowing customers to submit their photo can be a very effective way to engage your customers. One example is to use digital signage to promote your customers taking a picture of themselves or their friends interacting with your brand, and then submit it as an entry into a contest. Submissions can be posted on your digital signage or website creating another opportunity to re-engage the customer and build traffic to your website.
